Historical examples to justify outdoor signage maintenance
The Landmark Sign Group team was trying to come up with the best way to explain why even the best crafted signage needs maintenance over time. We started coming up with examples through history that pointed out that even the sturdiest of structures need a little tender loving care to keep their appearances. Here were a few of our favorites.

This is the same approach weather can take on signage. Much like the pebble how will negatively impact the journey by constantly getting in the way of a smooth step, exposure to heat, wind, rain and other elements can wear down and dry out the best of manufactured structures. It’s inevitable. Try as we might, eventually seals need to be cared for and updated to fight off the constant barrage of the elements.
The Grand Canyon was once flat land before carved out by the Colorado River
There isn’t any other force on the planet that can match the combination of ferocity and tenacity found in Mother Nature. She doesn’t quit. She doesn’t know how. She allowed for the Colorado River, over millions of years, to carve the Grand Canyon out of flat land.
There’s been no technology that can keep her away indefinitely. Eventually, every structures need to be updated, renovated, and repaired to keep pace with her onslaught. Otherwise, things are permanently changed, or worn away.
Pick a famous structure and you’ll find one that’s needed upkeep
There isn’t a building, sign, tower, or statue in history that hasn’t needed a facelift or few to keep their brilliant appearance. Eiffel Tower? It’s currently being renovated. Mount Rushmore? There’s upkeep.
It happens to everything. It will happen to your outdoor signage.
