How LED lighting reduces outdoor signage electric bill & energy consumption

There are so many stories out there about the money-saving and eco-friendly values of LED lighting that one can begin to feel as though the results are too good to be true.

Let us tell it to you straight: LED Lights have an incredible impact on both your electric bill and your carbon footprint. So much so, in fact, that the Federal government made it a law.

Thank you, Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA 2007)

The law, enacted beginning in 2012, reduced the consumption of standard watt bulbs by 27%. By 2020, that standard increases to 60%-70% more efficient for most bulbs compared to the initial consumption of incandescent bulbs before 2012.

25%-75% Savings

As EnergyStar.gov reports, “many Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) can meet this [2020] requirement today, shaving energy usage compared to standard incandescents by 75%.”

Government Rebates to Help with the LED Light Conversion

The government understands that not all companies can make the change quickly, so they’ve added rebate programs. Qualifying companies will be able to significantly reduce the cost of retrofitting LED lights to meet these standards. These rebates extend to outdoor signage.

Take it a step further with LEED Certification

While making the transformation, why not take it a step further and work towards LEED Certification.

What is LEED Certification?

Founded by the U.S. Green Building Council, the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design - aka LEED - provides standards for eco-friendly construction and maintenance standards via a streamlined certification standards. The element we help customers specialize in is by reducing their carbon footprint with LED lighting. Check out the work we did for Strack & Van Til.
